DEPARTMENT OF PHOTOGRAPHY
The Department of Photography was founded at FAMU as early as in 1975 and ranks therefore amongst the oldest institutions of its kind in Europe. The department was founded by professor Ján Šmok who was the head of it till 1987. After that the deaprtment was lead by doc. Jaroslav Rajzík, professor Miloslav Vojtěchovský, doc. Jaroslav Bárta and from 2009 by doc. Robert Silverio PhD.
In the year 2009 a new specialized programme Photography Restoring started at the department. DESCRIPTION OF THE STUDY PROGRAMME
Department of Photography offers Bachelor Program, Master Program and Short term Study program in Photography in the English language.
Bachelor program lasts of 3 years (6 semesters).
Master program lasts of 2 years (4 semesters).
Short term study lasts one or two semesters not finished by graduation.
All the courses in the study programme are in English.
In the study program, photography is seen as an inseparable part of the modern communication systems, which use visual language in a creative way. Photography is viewed not only from traditional perspectives (theory, technique, history and aesthetics of the field) but also from the point of view of socio-scientific research as well as investigated in the various forms of photography’s application in contemporary society.
There are variety of compulsory and facultative courses. In the first two years the study program is wide and general, covering various fields of photography. In the 3rd BA year and in both MA years the student is obliged to choose one of four different studios, which suits best his/her own artwork.

Students studying in the English language have also the opportunity to participate in the lectures in the English language in the FAMU International Program.

STUDENTS CAN USE
- 6 fully equipped studios,
- 5 darkrooms and computer rooms
- high-tech equipment for printing and scanning and archive.
- Students can borrow various devices and photo-equipment.

TUITION FEE
The tuition fee per first academic year is 8.700,- € (the mandatory VAT tax is included). Starting the second year, the fee is 7.000,- provided that the students fulfill their curricular responsibilities in a timely manner. This scholarship is not based on merit or artistic performance, but solely upon a timely fulfillment of the student´s academic responsibilities.

* On condition of fulfillment of academic responsibilities.

SHORT TERM FEE
Fee per one academic term (one semester) is 3.750,- € including VAT.

ENTRANCE EXAMS
Regular studies in the English language are open to those students who successfully pass the Admission Procedure. The costs of the studies are the responsibility of the students.

CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION TO BACHELOR STUDY PROGRAMME
The application form must be submitted to the FAMU Student Studies Office by March 5th 2011 at the latest.


Admission Procedure to Master Program

The following is to be submitted by the applicants to the Department of Photography for the Master Program Admission Procedure:

1/ Exhibition series of 8-12 photographs representing the applicant’s work;
2/ Maquette of a photographic publication prepared by the applicant;
3/ Series of 8-20 photographs or inter-medial works on a selected theme (different from the photographs submitted in the preceding series (point 1/ and 2/) presented according to the applicant’s own liking;
4/ Master Project Proposal which includes:
· Biography and information about student’s activities and studies;
· An application into one of the Studios of the Department of Photography and its justification (in the Master Program, the student will study within one of the following Studios: Studio of Studio Photography, Studio of Creative Photography, Studio of Outdoor Photography and Studio of Documentary Photography);
· Applicants’ general idea about how they want to approach their studies, what direction or fields they want to follow, what exchanges with other schools they plan, structure of his/her studies, etc.;
· Applicants’ basic idea about their Final Master Program Work (both photographic and theoretical).
